Rick Hansen has 10 years of Puyallup City Council experience. He has currently been serving since January
22, 2008, representing District 2. Prior to that, he served for 8 years in the 1980s. During that
time, he
had the honor and privilege of serving as District 2 Councilman and
Mayor Pro-Tem.
Those that know Rick Hansen know that he is a person that stands up
for what is right and that which most benefits the people of Puyallup,
even if that sometimes conflicts what he might prefer. In recent months,
Rick has spoken with and answered countless emails about questions
surrounding the future of Puyallup. Most of these questions concern
growth and traffic-related dilemnas that past councilmembers have not
addressed. Though the downtown area has noticed sizeable improvements,
it is small in comparison with the rest of the city as a whole. His
good business sense and willingness to work for the best for the city
make him the ideal candidate..
Rick has been a resident of Puyallup since 1979 and married for over 37 years
to Wife Karen Hansen, Executive Director of Communications with the
Puyallup School District. Rick and Karen have four grown children,
who all attended
Puyallup schools and were involved in sports and music. Gina began
her career as a teacher and coach at Rogers High School before moving
to the Bay Area, CA where she works in IT Training and Design, runs her
own consulting business, and teaches in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Angela is a teacher in the Kent School District. Erik
works in IT Human Resources. And, Darren works in Construction and Interior
Design.
Many years ago, and at the very beginnings of his career, Rick worked as a tour
guide sharing the many beauties of the Pacific Northwest. Settling
in Puyallup, he is again proud to represent such a vibrant community
and growing. Rick understands that living in a great city requires
hard work and good listening skills.
Welcoming email and phone calls, Rick makes a point to listen to
the concerns of interested citizens. Important concerns such as futures-based
planning, smarter urban development and fiscal responsibility are
at the forefront of Rick's goals for upcoming years.
